...f/ear this! è il documento sonoro più importante uscito in tutti gli anni ottanta per quanto riguarda le musiche difuoriste (come diceva stratos)... [if / subway news]
..."una raccolta di musica, parole, immagini inedite ispirate dalla paura" è l'esauriente sottotitolo di quest'album doppio pubblicato da p.e.a.c.e., l'associazione delle etichette indipendenti alternative italiane (della quale fanno parte blu bus, catfood press, particolare music, rockgarage, trax, ut/comunicazioni e tunnel) in sostegno di a/rivista anarchica. il progetto, curato da marco pandin (giornalista attivissimo a cui va la nostra stima più sincera per l'immenso e onesto lavoro svolto in questi anni) è nato nel 1986 su un'idea tanto semplice quanto geniale: mettere assieme, chiedendo aiuto a amici musicisti, grafici e poeti sparsi un po' ovunque in italia e all'estero, materiale ispirato da un soggetto comune, in questo caso "la paura". tutti hanno collaborato gratuitamente e, supponiamo, con una buona dose di entusiasmo. trasparenza assoluta e assenza di business fanno di questo concept un'esperienza unica nel suo genere. il concetto di paura viene attraversato e scomposto nelle sue sfaccettature più nascoste. questo lavoro è pregno di creatività e gli autori raccontano se stessi per mezzo di suoni, immagini e parole che hanno la forza di un messaggio vitale e positivo. ovviamente le atmosfere musicali sono delle più svariate, si spazia dal rock allo sperimentalismo estremo, dal jazz al minimale, dai suoni elettronici a quelli acustici. italia, francia, olanda, germania, gran bretagna e stati uniti sono i luoghi di provenienza di questa imperdibile "internazionale della paura". franti, detonazione, embryo, politrio, annie anxiety e molti altri i protagonisti... ...it's a two-record set which definitely has something for everybody. the line-up ranges from international experimental artists such as nurse with wound to lesser known italian artists as thelema, paroksi-eksta (with a wonderful organum-like piece), la1919 and giorgio cantoni. this album covers alot of musical territory, ranging from new progressive jazz-rock (à la recommended records) to post-punk alternative rock, to moody electronic soundscapes, to sampling/tape manipulated weirdness. there are many strong offerings here, the overall packaging is excellent, and to top it off it is a cause worth supporting... ...compilation italienne sur le théme de la peur qui s'illustre dur deux albums. musiques à dominantes quelque peu industrielles, où on retrouve nww, die form, annie anxiety et bien d'autres. compile internationale, où aucun groupe des pays de l'est n'est représenté, c'est le reproche (le seul) qu'on peut faire, elle a été editée pour soutenir le magazine anarchiste italien a/rivista anarchica. un livret concernant les groupes participant à ce travail vient compléter le tout. c'est proudit par p.e.a.c.e., qui est un regroupement de divers labels alternatifs italiens. cette compilation est essentielle... ...a bizarre collection of rather unusual music, raw scratchy stuff from wonky jazz to strange atmospheric sounds. it's the message a group of musicians, poets, philosophers and rumorists attempt to drive into the collective subconscious of their audience during a two-hour listening-reading experience through sounds, words and images inspired by fear... ...p.e.a.c.e. is a label for special projects representing the union of several italian alternative indies as opposed to more commercially oriented small record companies turning out pop-crap by the thousands. profits from "f/ear this!" will support the anarchist monthly magazine a/rivista anarchica. contributions are varied geographically and stilistically, and though the theme of "fear" is not always respected, all in all it is an interesting collection of oddities, including a deranged version of the jesus christ superstar theme by italian crowley scholars thelema, inspired poetry from annie anxiety and pete wright of crass and electro-industrial soundscapes by unconventional ensembles like nurse with wound, die form and embryo... ...music tends to defy description, as the inadequacy of words to describe music is compounded when the music does not fit oversimplifying rock-journalistic jargon. in describing the italian compilation album "f/ear this!" catch-phrases such as "experimental rock" or "post industrial" are unavoidable, though relatively meaningless, when reconsidered (...). always subversive, but displaying many odd stylistic facets, "f/ear this!" enjoys cross-breeding such diverse as harsh rock, noise and industrial soundscapes and ambient electronics. contributors range from british obscure groups such as steven stapleton's nurse with wound and possession to american radicals as dr. nerve (avant-guitarist nick didkovsky's no-jazz band) and don king, to german old school experimentalists embryo and limpe fuchs (a member of anima musica), plus a bunch of italian and french artists. the editors choose not to print the list of contributors on the record sleeve and sealed the opening with a circle-a sticker...
